Little Acorns Academy partners with Mother Goose Time to integrate a play based curriculum beginning in the Sprouts Classroom with toddlers (2 Year+). The activities and projects are specific to the age group and grow with your child as they graduate from class to class, preparing them for Kindergarten.
The curriculum applies child development theories and brain research to a unique model of teacher support, child experience and family engagement. The integrated system uniquely weaves 33 research-based skills into playful games and discover projects. The cross-disciplinary model supports a child’s on-going social-emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
Every activity and project integrates 2-3 skills from the domains of learning listed below.
Little Acorns Academy begins using Zoo-phonics at the Preschool level within the Saplings and Oaks classrooms (3 Years+). The fun and playful program teaches kids reading, spelling and writing.
Zoo-phonics maximizes understanding, memory, utilization and transference to all areas of the reading, spelling and writing process in a playful and concrete manner. The method was developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching) for a whole brain approach. Students actually learn the sounds of the alphabet and advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation.
Zoo-phonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement is given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters.
